Resources

  • www.nccsl.org   National conference of State Legislatures.  This bipartisan organization provides a data base that tracks legislation on all topics, including environmental health and climate change.  There is information at both the state and federal level.
  • www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/subjects/water_quality_6052    This organization describes itself as “The leading non-governmental source of legislative information and statistics”.  Use this site to identify your Congressional Representative and Senators, and to browse bills related to environmental concerns.
  • www.findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov  Use this site to find out who your state senator and assembly person are.
  • www.bos.lacounty.gov/About-us/Board-of-Supervisors   Here’s where to go to find out who your county supervisor is!
  • www.epa.gov  Website for the Environmental Protection Agency, a US government body founded in the 1970’s whose mission is to protect human health and the environment.  This is a good place to do some basic research, in particular to gather statistics about environmental issues.  Personally, I don’t think they go far enough to protect the environment or us.
  • www.ewg.org  Website for the Environmental Working Group, a non-profit organization that strives to educate the public about health and the environment.  There is controversy about whether their statements are adequately scientifically based.
  • www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/   This is a great place to learn more about the United Nations goals in all areas for sustainable development.  Some interesting activities here for children.
  • www.catalogchoice.org   Best place to register to stop unwanted junk mail!  Do it now!!!
  • www.consumerreports.org   Great place to check and see what products are the most effective and the least expensive.  They do not include environmental effects or sustainability in their research.
  • http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/    This will help you find out who represents you at the level of state government.
  • www.APHA.org   Wonderful website to learn more about the health impacts of environmental degradation and climate change.  I’m a fan!!
