The Big Picture

When I first started trying to create a more eco-conscious and lifestyle, I was confused and overwhelmed.  Where to start? How was I going to sort scientifically based facts and recommendations from junk information?  How was I going to wade through all the information available on the internet? What was reasonable to do? I was pretty much paralyzed by too much data and too little knowledge.
So I said to myself, “Self, you can do this.  Take the same approach you use when reorganizing the kitchen; do one drawer at a time.”  So I began with the laundry…I’m not sure why, but I figured it’s 2 machines and not a lot of products.  I learned what sources of information to trust. I learned how to think about the products I used and the way I used them.

In my writing I want to share with you the information I have gathered, and the things we are doing in our household to live a little lighter on the planet.  I explain in my blogs why this thinking is important, BUT THE BIG PICTURE IS THIS:

  • CHEMICAL FOOTPRINT: analyze what you use for its chemical impact on you and the environment.
  • WASTE FOOTPRINT: analyze what waste you generate in using a product and look for ways to minimize it.
  • CARBON FOOTPRINT: analyze the resources needed to produce and transport what you use to live, how you use energy in the home, and your transportation patterns and see what you can do to minimize your impact on the environment.

What I am learning in the course of doing this website is that it’s not enough for each of us as individuals to change our lifestyles.  We have to stand up and make sure that our voices are being heard. As the least political person on the planet, I am getting informed about legislation that impacts the environment and am standing up for what I believe is right.  I will share information about how you, too, and be involved beyond the level of your home. It’s important. I hope you think so too.

You did it!! Love how you have written this. Makes perfect sense if only people myself included would be more aware. I’m trying in my small way.
